MAINE COUNCIL FOR THE SOCIAL STUDIES

MCSS 2026 CONFERENCE

REQUEST FOR PROPROSALS

This year we are looking for 3 presenters offering content/instruction for elementary teachers and 3 presenters offerings content/instruction for middle/high school teachers. Our attendees are always eager to meet and work with presenters like yourself who can share their expertise and experience. They especially value workshop sessions that are interactive, hands on, and answer the question, “How do I teach this content?” and “How is this presentation helpful to educators working on proficiency standards?”  The goal of our conference is to share best practices around economics, geography, history, technology, civics, and global studies through the offered sessions and workshops.

The theme of the 2026 is Social Studies is Revolutionary. 2026 marks the Semiquincentennial, or the 250th anniversary of the United States and the Declaration of Independence.  As the United States marks this anniversary, we affirm that social studies is itself a revolutionary subject, and how we teach social studies should be revolutionary, too!  Social studies can change how we understand the world and our place in it and can lead to real social and political change.  When we study history, economics, culture, and government, we are better empowered to participate in democracy and advocate for change. Please indicate how your proposed session/workshop could connect to this theme.

To submit an RFP, complete this form linked here. Questions? Email MCSS President and conference chair Kathleen Neumann at kneumann@mainehistory.org.
