MAINE COUNCIL FOR THE SOCIAL STUDIES

The mission of the Maine Council for the Social Studies is to promote quality social studies education for all students. This includes:

• Advocating for strong social studies curriculum and content standards
  
• Supporting effective and engaging instructional methods and practices 
  
• Providing and promoting high-quality professional development opportunities for social studies teachers
  
• Serving as a voice for social studies education at the state and local levels
  
• Connecting educators and professionals across all levels and settings where social studies education is taking place. 
  

By focusing on these key areas, the Maine Council for the Social Studies aims to ensure that all Maine schools are equipped to ensure Maine students receive a comprehensive, meaningful social studies education that prepares them for success in college, careers, and civic life.
